Volunteer Spotlight: Debbie Broerse
Debbie Broerse is the 2017 Race for the Cure chair. She has been involved with the Race since 2001. In previous years, she has always loved being involved with the teams and preparing team packets.
A favorite memory of Debbie’s involvement with the Race was the first Pink Parade. Prior to the parade it had been raining, but when the parade began the sun came out. The parade was the first time most of the survivors had been together as a group, so the survivors were full of emotion and it was a heartfelt moment for Debbie to witness.
Being the Race chair, it is important for Debbie to see what the Race means to the breast cancer community.
“I feel it is my role as a non-survivor to be a steward for the cause and bring help financially and emotionally to those impacted by breast cancer,” Debbie said.
Debbie continues to help with the Race every year because there is no cure for breast cancer yet.
“The Race Day event takes a village of people and I am happy and proud to be one of the villagers,” Debbie said.
