Volunteer Spotlight: Alicia Collins
As a 15-year participant and advocate of Race for the Cure, Alicia Collins loves volunteering and raising money for Komen Central Indiana. She believes it is an action-oriented organization where you can see the results of the mission based on the programs and resources being put back into the community.
Alicia’s journey with Komen began after seeing a lot of coworkers, family members, and herself touched by breast cancer. She did not have a lot of information about breast cancer, so she reached out to Komen Central Indiana to receive more information and find a direct way to get involved.
“I wanted to be a part of the action,” Alicia said.
Along with her involvement in Race for the Cure, Alicia is a grant review committee member.
Alicia shared that her most memorable moment as a volunteer thus far was working the photo booth during Race for the Cure. It gave her the opportunity to see other survivors and community members supporting Komen while having fun and being happy to be alive.
“Celebration is evident in that event,” Alicia said.
Alicia would like to thank the staff at Komen Central Indiana for their welcoming spirit, engagement with the community, and for being the driving effort of the local Komen.
From the whole Komen Central Indiana family, thank you for your contributions! You truly make a difference.
