Nicole Richards – 2015 Ambassador
Nicole works fulltime for the Department of Defense in Indianapolis where she resides with her two furry friends. She is a big Britney Spears fan and loves cheering on the Colts.
In 2000, Nicole was involved in a serious car accident that changed her life forever. The accident left her paralyzed from the chest down. Nicole was a senior in high school returning from a trip to Ball State University where she was preparing to sign on to the gymnastics team. Nicole now faces an even bigger battle, breast cancer. In October of 2013, Nicole was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma and has been receiving treatment ever since. It has been a rough year for Nicole, but she is “thankful to be alive!” Nicole is finished with major treatment but still has several reconstructive surgeries to undergo. Nicole is optimistic and “can’t wait to say goodbye to the C-word!”
Nicole has participated in several Komen Central Indiana events. She joined the Race for the Cure, is frequently found at volunteer events and modeled in the Project Pink Fashion Show.
Nicole’s takeaway message for others: “I have learned that life is a gift. Don’t take a single day for granted. As horrible as today may be, tomorrow will be better.”
