Michelle Petterson Miller – 2016 Ambassador
City: Indianapolis, IN
Date of diagnosis: October 2014
Diagnosis: Invasive Lobular Carcinoma
Michelle was diagnosed with breast cancer on October 3, 2014. Many ideas ran through her head and she wondered “how could this be?” All of her adult life she had eaten organic and BPA free products, and had no family history of breast cancer. She panicked and began to nest in her home. But once she met with her doctor she realized she could fight this disease and did so in less than a year. Michelle made it through with help from her husband and friends. Her belief is that anything is possible if you believe it.
Michelle was involved in Susan G. Komen before she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has been involved with the Pink Tie Ball Annual Gala for the past two years, working the wine pull. In addition to attending other functions like Project Pink Fashion Show, she feels as though she has been fully adopted by having women like Julie Hollis, another survivor, as her mentor. She feels blessed to be a part of this community of Warriors.
Michelle takeaway message for others:
“My advice is to stay positive and control inner self-talk… it is more powerful than you can imagine. Love yourself.”
