Kroger Central Division wins national Komen award

Susan G. Komen® named Kroger Central Division the “Outstanding Volunteer Group of the Year” during its annual Komen Leadership Conference in Fort Worth, TX. This honor recognizes a committee of four or more individuals who have worked together to benefit a Komen affiliate, making significant strides toward ending breast cancer.

Kroger Central Division has been supporting Komen Central Indiana and Komen Memorial for more than 15 years. The company is a high-level sponsor for Race for the Cure and also generously provides food and volunteers for five events, including Race for the Cure in Indianapolis. In fact, the Kroger Race team is one of the largest corporate teams to participate in the annual Races.

Kroger’s presence does not stop on Race day, but continues to be felt year-round. In addition to its monetary support, which regularly tops all corporate donations, Kroger supports Komen by way of food packing events, Mammography Day events and in-store Race registration. The company has further provided several committee and Board members for both Affiliates.

“The support from Kroger volunteers and customers is essential to our local Race for the Cure,” said Natalie Sutton, executive director of Komen Central Indiana. “This recognition is well-deserved, and we are grateful to have an outstanding partner like Kroger.”

Through its vast visibility, leadership and concentrated efforts on Race days, Kroger acts as a consistent source of encouragement and support for the 41 counties served by Komen Central Indiana, enabling them to reach women in low income neighborhoods with lifesaving breast health information.
