Kim Irish – 2015 Ambassador
Kim currently works for ShoreTel, a communications provider. She resides in Indianapolis with her loving husband and dog, Cosmo. She enjoys boating with her husband, reading and puzzles. Kim also enjoys binge watching television while traveling for her job. Occasionally, Kim acts and models with Hellen Wells Agency.
Kim’s journey with breast cancer began in January of 2013 when she discovered a lump on her left breast. Knowing she had a mammogram in March, Kim decided to wait for her appointment. Before her appointment, Kim saw her doctor and had a breast exam with no findings. In addition, Kim’s mammogram came back clear, but Kim was still concerned. In April, she saw her general doctor who found the lump after performing a stand-up breast exam after Kim explained that this was how she had noticed the lump in January. Between April and November of 2013, Kim had a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation treatments. As she proceeded with treatment, Kim was amazed at the number of people that showed their support during that time.
Kim’s takeaway message for others:
“You know your body better than anyone, listen to it. The everyday relationships that you might take for granted become so shiny, bright and special. I knew I had a great marriage and husband before my cancer, but now I have a whole new respect for our relationship and the partner my husband is to me.”
“I respect those that weren’t bothered by losing their hair. For me it was a big deal and affected me deeply. It was and still is a constant reminder of my breast cancer.”
