Erin Greenwald – 2015 Ambassador

Erin is a massage therapist at The Woodhouse Day Spa. She enjoys traveling, music, sports, the gym and spinning classes. She and her husband Robert have been married for eight years. They have a cat named Rubin.

In February 2012, Erin found a lump and an indention on the left side of her breast, just above the rib cage.  Thinking that this couldn’t happen to her, ignoring that something was wrong, she waited until July to get checked.  On July 16, 2012 she got the call no one wants to hear…..breast cancer. Being at the young age of 37 years old and having no history of cancer in her family, Erin was in shock. Her life was turned upside down! She was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, Stage 3, ER+ PR+ Her2+. She went through six rounds of chemo, had a lumpectomy with a reduction on both sides and a lift….ocoplastic surgery, and 28 rounds of radiation.

She believes she was given a challenge.  “If G-d didnt think I could handle the “challenge” it would not have been given to me.  Through ups and downs, I didn’t let cancer stop me from doing what I loved!” She still worked and exercised whenever she could. Going through Cancer has made her a stronger person inside and out.  She was not going to let this stop her from living her life to its fullest.

Erin believes when fighting breast cancer, reaching out and finding others who are going through the same is very important. When Erin went through treatment, she focused on finding something that made her happy, and knowing that she was not going through it alone. With the support of new friends, old friends  and family, Erin was able to have a positive outlook. She always said to herself: Whatever is in me is stronger than what is out there to defeat me.

Erin celebrates survivorship by attending Pink Tie Ball, the Pink Ribbon Celebration and Race for the Cure.

Erin’s takeaway message for others:
“The pain you feel today is the strength you feel tomorrow. For every challenge encountered there is opportunity for growth.”
